Diving into the Enneagram can be overwhelming, with all the theories, schools of thought, and terminology. Fortunately, Deborah Threadgill Egerton and Lisi Mohandessi’s book Enneagram Made Easy: Explore the Nine Personality Types of the Enneagram to Open Your Heart, Find Joy, and Discover Your True Self, breaks down the complexities of the Enneagram in a way that’s easily digestible for first time seekers. Even seasoned learners will find it to be a great refresher on Enneagram terminology.

On a surface level, the Enneagram may seem to be another fun, modern typology that friends explore together for fun. However, it has the potential to become a tool to discover one’s own journey of healing and belonging. Enneagram Made Easy gently nudges and encourages the reader to explore all 9 types of themselves, allow them to see their reflection at each point. The book is organized in a manner that allows for a smooth transition from one concept to the next without the need for additional research.

When reading the various types, the book is consistent in it’s format; it introduces the center of intelligence, the type, the basic desires of the type, and even includes the type’s wings and instincts. To help the reader identify their own type, Enneagram Made Easy includes personal stories of individuals discovering their type for each of the 9 types.

Newcomers to the Enneagram will find immense value in this book, which reads almost like a textbook, with clear explanations of Enneagram terminology and detailed descriptions of each type. As for the nerdier Enneagramers and long time learners, it serves as a helpful refresher, particularly in its exploration of topics like shadow work, object relations, and so on. There is no new information published, no new theories or thoughts, but that’s not the book’s intent.

Enneagram Made Easy is a great resource guide to have when learning about this system. It touches on complex subjects and turns them into simple, easy-to-understand explanations. It would be a great addition to anyone’s library. Be careful though when going to pick up your copy since there are 2 other books published under the same/similar title. Deborah Threadgill Egerton, along with Lisi Mohandessi, created a book that will assist many people in delving deeper into the Enneagram.
