Take a break from a study mindset with Sarajane Case’s book, The Enneagram Letters: A Poetic Exploration of Who You Thought You Had to Be, a collection of short essays and poems for each Enneagram type. Even readers with no prior Enneagram knowledge can enjoy this piece.

Case begins the book with a brief introduction to the Enneagram, followed by nine chapters, each corresponding to one of the nine types. Each chapter opens with a concise summary of the type and explores its main themes. The chapters include short stories, experiences, and poems tailored to each Enneagram type.

Readers who pick up this gem will gain a more compassionate, understanding, and empathetic perspective of each type. It helps the reader recognize that everyone is capable of embodying aspects of all types. This is evident in how Case titles her chapters: “To the part of you that feels it must be…” (Case 2). In this way, she echoes what many expert Enneagram teachers emphasize: you are more than your type.

You may be surprised to relate to poems or experiences from a chapter different from your own type. And that’s the point—to recognize and break free from the box we often accidentally place ourselves in, and to see how similar our experiences can be across all types and with all people. Case did a wonderful job achieving that goal with her book. This book is not intended to teach complicated Enneagram theories, but it is still a great addition to your Enneagram library.
