Evagrius of Pontus, one of the fathers of Christian monasticism is also in a certain way one of the “fathers” of the modern enneagram.

In his treatise “On the vices opposed to the virtues” Evagrius adds one unusual feature, a ninth vice, jealousy, to the usual list of eight.

Today we can point at how Evagrius suggests treating “bad” thoughts, and marvel at the striking similarity with Buddhist teachings and some modern cognitive therapies.
